The university and port city of Bari is located in Apulia, in the ‘heel’ of the ‘boot’ that makes up the Italian Peninsula. It’s a real highlight that you should be sure not to miss out on when journeying through Southern Italy. And what better way to get to know the city and its surroundings than on two wheels? Apulia boasts gorgeous landscapes, with picturesque villages above steep cliffs. Cruise over the coastal streets through Bella Italia on a motorbike from BMW! In and around Bari, you’ll find perhaps the most popular beaches in Apulia. Or are you more in the mood for cultural highlights? Bari’s historic city centre, the Basilica di San Nicola, and the Cathedral of Saint Sabinus are definitely worth a visit. You can also take in a bit of history at the Castello Normanno-Svevo. The impressive defensive structure was built in the 12th century and looms at the edge of the old town.
Hire a motorbike: explore Apulia from Bari
Apulia is a biker’s dream – especially in spring and autumn. The Costa di Bari coastline boasts stunning landscapes, and the roads are varied and curvy.
About 45 km to the southeast of Bari lies the city of Monopoli. You’re in for quite an experience if you explore it on a motorbike or scooter. Roam through the picturesque old town, passing by gelaterias, bars, and little shops. Monopoli’s Southern European flair really comes out at night. And you should definitely take a ride down the coast-side road that connects Bari with the little towns of Cozze and Polignano a Mare. In Polignano a Mare, a unique panoramic view of the historic city, cliffs, and the sea awaits you. And about that sea: along the entire coast, you’ll find gorgeous beaches just perfect for changing out of your leather biking suit and into your swimsuit.
