Approaching the city from the north-west, you will immediately see the city at its best: the pointed grey towers of the Koppelpoort medieval city gate rise impressively above the river Eem. Discover Amersfoort by bike and follow the Tulip Route
Amersfoort is an ideal base for exploring the rest of the Netherlands. It will only take you about one and a half hours to reach the capital Amsterdam at a leisurely pace on country roads. If you’d like to plan a longer motorcycling tour, you could follow the Tulip Route through Flevoland. From Amersfoort, you can also reach the municipality of Dronten in less than an hour. From here, follow the Tulip Route to Lelystad and Zeewolde, where you can then make your way back to Amersfoort. From mid-April to early May, you can enjoy the wealth of colour of Dutch tulips from the seat of your bike. It’s always a good idea to have a break during your travels – charming cafés and farmhouses are there to offer refreshment.
